The Which Way
Back

I began writing about this topic back in December of 2011 because of a conversation I had with a friend one day following a meeting of a group at the Prescott Library called Cafe Socrates. Dean had come to the meeting filled with an energetic need to denounce religion and assert the absolute dependency of mind on matter (in the form of physiological brain function).

He said there was no way you could prove that mind was independent of matter and agreed with me (at least in passing) that there was actually no way, either, that one could prove the contrary. When I said that I thought there might be a way to prove mind was independent of matter, he suggested, without a lot of seriousness, that I write up my proof and bring it to the next meeting. In the month between meetings I actually gave a little conscious thought to that challenge and made some notes towards a proof that eventually became these notes. I put these on my webplace just so he and another chap interested in the topic could read them prior to another meeting we ended up scheduling for the sole purpose of debating these issues.

Despite our meeting not having been very fruitful for either of us, I have continued to maintain and expand my thinking here. For reasons explained in Other Ways.
